Scaling & Root Planing

What is Scaling & Root Planing?

Dental deep cleaning (SRP) is a procedure in which bacteria, tartar, and debris is removed from under the gum line. Comparing this to a regular cleaning, a regular cleaning focuses on the exterior surfaces of the teeth.

Why Do I Need A Deep Cleaning?

A deep cleaning is required as the collection of bacteria, tartar and debris under the gumline triggers an immune response from the body which will result in inflammation of the gums to fight the infection. If this is left untreated, this could result in severe bone loss, weakening of the tooth strength, and perhaps even the loss of teeth.

Through the deep cleaning procedure, the substances will be removed, and the gums will begin to heal once all removed. If there is any tenderness or pain after the procedure, the dentist will recommend antibiotics or anti-pain medication in order for the patient to heal.
